MMP was supposed to give us better representation, but all it does is give the parties more power. And has very little to do with us. The proof is in the pudding. Out of all the NZ registered political parties twenty one in all, only four are standing candidates in the New Plymouth electorate. National Labour Libertarianz and the Act party including myself as the New Plymouth independent. Notability missing are NZ Ist and the Greens, who have not even bothered to stand candidates. This I believe proves my point. That the parties are only interested in the party vote and power. The vote that gives them all the power through list seats in parliament without having to stand constituent candidates who have to face the coal face of the voters, work hard and gain the respect of the electorate. This back door way into parliament without even having to have a representative in the electorate to wave their flag explain their party policies etc. Leaves the New Plymouth electorate very poorly represented indeed. And shows the total lack of respect these parties have for our electorate voters. If these parties don't have the courtesy to even stand representative's. Then why should we give them the courtesy to vote for their parties with our party vote.
