THE CONCLUSION

The New Plymouth Independent made the difference.

The most marginal seat this election is New Plymouth – Before the specials were counted Harry Duynhoven Labour got (15239 Votes) to Jonathan Young National ( 15553 Votes) a margin of 314 . Next highest was me Rusty Kane Independent at ( 693 Votes ) because of my direct campaign against Harry combined with the swing to National the majority of my votes came of Harry's Labour vote. So the New Plymouth Independent Seat made the difference to Labours Harry Duynhoven losing and Nationals Jonathan Young winning the New Plymouth seat. The specials would have had to be 6.1% better for Labour and worse for National for Harry to win. The margin would still be within the 500-700 votes margin I held. New Plymouth looked to be the only seat which could have seriously changed, and that never was going to happen with my intervention. Which has proved even more so to be the case now the specials have been counted. The margin being reduced to only around 100 votes. The New Plymouth Indepentent Seat may have only come third in the vote count, but each and every vote for Rusty Kane Independent and the New Plymouth Indepentent Seat was very effective in deciding the outcome here in New Plymouth. It made the difference that keeped Harry out and Jonathan in.

Full Party Supporters Support Across The Board Needed

What are you doing for New Plymouth this Election.
24/10/2008
Well it now looks like National will have the most votes as a single party, but Labour will head the next coalition government. Now thaMoari seats to be entrenched in law. National has no likely coalition partners left t the Greens have sided with Labour and the Moari party wants the other than the Act party. Meaning they will be out numbered politically. More reason now for the National supporters to now vote the New Plymouth Independent with their local candidate tick. As the New Plymouth Independent Seat will go with the party that has the mandate to govern. As there is no advantage for New Plymouth and the seat to be in the opposition party. Also because New Zealanders vote governments out not in, it is a clear that Labour itself was voted out. Therefore Harry the incumbent will go to, not being on the list. Even though Labour will be the government by default. So Labour supporters to should now vote for the New Plymouth Independent Seat with their local candidate tick. All the other smaller parties Greens NZ First Act etc only want your party vote. So all their supporters should also support the New Plymouth Seat with their local candidate tick. This way at least New Plymouth will have a say at the negotiating table with its issues, who ever the government coalition turns out to be.

MMP Fast

MMP was supposed to give us better representation, but all it does is give the parties more power. And has very little to do with us. The proof is in the pudding. Out of all the NZ registered political parties twenty one in all, only four are standing candidates in the New Plymouth electorate. National Labour Libertarianz and the Act party including myself as the New Plymouth independent. Notability missing are NZ Ist and the Greens, who have not even bothered to stand candidates. This I believe proves my point. That the parties are only interested in the party vote and power. The vote that gives them all the power through list seats in parliament without having to stand constituent candidates who have to face the coal face of the voters, work hard and gain the respect of the electorate. This back door way into parliament without even having to have a representative in the electorate to wave their flag explain their party policies etc. Leaves the New Plymouth electorate very poorly represented indeed. And shows the total lack of respect these parties have for our electorate voters. If these parties don't have the courtesy to even stand representative's. Then why should we give them the courtesy to vote for their parties with our party vote.

National Taranaki Plebb

In reply to the NP National Candidate Jonathan Young letter 12/09/ 2008.
As he refers to myself and the New Plymouth Independent Seat I am putting forward this 2008 general election.
In which Jonathan asks a number of questions best answered by myself the seats proposer.
Firstly how will I ascertain what the interests of New Plymouth are...
If Jonathan had lived in New Plymouth and was involved in his community in last few years he would know what they are.. I on the other hand do get involved in the community on many levels... I go to the community meetings of concern... I read the community papers.. I write to the local papers... I get involved in the issues... The popular and unpopular one's, unlike the other party candidates that you only see at election time.
For Jonathan's sack so he has something to campaign on without patronizing or preaching his ideals..
The three main issues at the moment for the voters of the New Plymouth electorate are...
(Roading and Infrastructure).
(The Proposed LNG Terminal at the Port).
(Land Treaty Settlements).
The New Plymouth Independent Seat is not about me Jonathan as you suggest it is about New Plymouth Electorate and its issues. I merely hold the door open for the main stakeholders of these issues to came and negotiate their issues through the New Plymouth Seat on behalf of New Plymouth directly to those in power. Thats better than waiting for a party candidate that is 66 on his list or a party Minister in power like Harry has been for many years doing it for us. The fact is you can't or won't because your both party lackeys, your parties and their issues come first not New Plymouth and its issues.
When Jonathan says political parties bring us COHESIVE CONTINUTTY CONSENSUS and STABILITY you wonder were he's been the last decade or so. Another reason the New Plymouth electorate and its voters need to have their own Independent Seat. He also needs read up on the MMP system, because it is obvious from his letter he has no understanding of it.
For the record my personal issue is the Paritutu Dioxin issue not one of the main issues for New Plymouth at this stage, so is not on the list of the three main issues to be negotiated. But there is hope that the Government of the day will apologies to the people of New Plymouth for the Crowns involvement and cover up on the issue. Theres still a lot of water to go under the bridge at this stage. First we need to get the New Plymouth Independent Seat empowered. And that can only be done with the help of the New Plymouth's electorate voters electorate vote, not party vote.

Electoral Boundaries New Plymouth

Taranaki New Plymouth electoral boundaries are unfair, especially for Inglewood and places north or Wiatara. Who are in the Taranaki King Country electorate, yet pay their rates to New Plymouth. So if something is desided on in New Plymouth on political grounds they have know say. Yet are expected to pay rates on changes either way. Either it be for New Plymouth's roading infrastructure or port expansion they are expected to pay be way of rates. I believe if you pay rates to an area such as New Plymouth you should also be represented and have a say politically. What does Inglewood have in common with Te Awamutu for instance. It is New Plymouth they pay their rates to and it is New Plymouth th whom they should belong to electorally, not Taranaki King Country. An electorate that is becoming less Taranaki and more Wanganui King Country each boundary change. Soon the only thing left named Taranaki in Taranaki King Country electorate will be the mountain.

Some Balance Needed

Oil, Gas, so vital to the future of both New Plymouth and Taranaki, which brings much desired money to the province. Also has its draw backs. Oil and Gas industries has an element of boom and bust periods that can do more harm than good to a communities health. The think big projects of the 80s are a good example of this. Big money transient workers, where most of the profits are diverted out of the area or overseas. They course more pressure on our already overloaded infrastructure, rent hikes, housing shortages and the like. When they go and its usually suddenly the community is left to pick up the pieces. Those on fixed incomes are often hurt tyhe worsed, because of the high inflation these boom bust industries course on the community. Farming our most vital long term primary industry and other Taranaki industries suffer to, because of the high wages these boom bust industries attract, make employment retention for these other industries near impossible, forcing up wages and making them less competitive. Farming is and always will be our long term future not oil and gas. We in Taranaki need to think about this, because I know if I was young man milking cows for minimum wage looking over the fence at the oil and gas industry wages. I would not be milking cows for long. It is keeping those young farmers milking on the land that is our future.
